Psychodynamic psychotherapy
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a talking therapy provided by a trained mental health professional. Listening and speaking with you about your social and emotional challenges to improve your mental health can be a life-changing experience. My approach is structured by the Psychodynamic training and continuous professional development I engage in. This approach involves exploring your past experiences to better understand your present experiences. This occurs through our interactions which include talking, playing, your creativity or simply being with me as your therapist. I offer an authentic, warm, non-judgemental, consistent presence, treasuring the developing relationship and what you share. You are supported to explore and manage your difficulties with reduced pain and suffering.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural
Therapy (CBT)

Through this talking therapy, we will use various visuals and paper resources and together we will explore your current thoughts, feelings, physical responses and behaviours.

Providing you with psycho-education I will support you to understand your responses and set manageable goals for positive change. Helping you to find better ways to cope with feelings and fears.

Play based therapy
Play based Therapy

Each child is unique and special and parents or carers can become concerned for a child for various reasons. For example, their child may be experiencing deep sadness, unable to cope, disruptive, withdrawn, or have developmental or psychological conflicts.  Challenging behaviour, eating or sleeping patterns, how they get on with family, friends or at school can also lead you to want to seek support.

Therapy engaged in through play, primarily with children and young people, can be a foundation for the transformative interaction that occurs within therapy sessions. Our interaction provides opportunities for developing a trusted relationship, increased communication and development across multiple areas.

Play-based therapy can encourage the use of language, ease anxiety fears and support the expression of feelings. The observation process and shared experience also promote responsibility, empathy, improved social skills and positive experience of relationships.

Systemic approach
A Systemic Approach

Work with the individual focuses on  how they view and relate to their world both internally and externally. A systemic approach recognises that when necessary, the therapist will draw upon the relationship the individual has with family groups and further integral groups that have played a part in their life. Significant patterns and roles within these groups can be explored for a better understanding for the individual.

For the benefit of families, a systemic approach is sometimes offered to members of the family unit, to support positive family changes.

Mindfulness
Mindfulness

Mindfulness is an approach to full attentiveness in the moment for the benefit of a calm connection to the self, to the body, to breath and experience. Through the guided processes and visualisations provided in the therapy room you are enabled to put into practice the skills engaged in at your own convenience in a variety of situations.

Mindfulness has many health, brain function and well-being benefits and can provide an individual with the opportunity to engage in care for themselves.

Trauma and attachment
Trauma and Neuroscience

There are many recognised effects of trauma and remaining misunderstandings of what trauma is. The effects of trauma can reduce when a safe and trusted therapeutic or positive consistent relationship is established. Within psychological therapy sessions you can be supported to begin to process and understand the legacies of trauma.

My study and training of the brain's relationship to development, behaviour, experiences, and our responses, informs my work with you.  My knowledge and understanding is shared in ways that can further an individual's understanding of their brain and its vital functions.
